دبليو إدواردز دمينغ إحصائيا أمريكيا. وهو مرتبط بعلو اليابان كأمة صناعية ، و اكتشاف ادارة الجودة الشاملة . و مع الاب الروحى الأخر الأمريكية للجودة - جى ام جوران ، ذهب دمينغ إلى اليابان التى اصبحت جزء من قوات الاحتلال المتحالفة بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية. علم دمينغ طرق تحسين الجودة إلى اليابانيين كثيرا ، بما في ذلك إستعمال الإحصائيات ودورة - خطط, انجز, ادرس, نفذ . وفي 1960 منحه الإمبراطور الياباني وسام لخدماته فى الصناعة للبلاد .

في كتابها (طريقة إدارة دمينغ) تقول ميري واطسون حول الحياة فى العمل للاب الروحى إدواردز دمينغ. كانت المعجزة الصناعيّة في اليابان من اول مثال عن ما يمكن حدوثه عند التزام الأمة بالجودة والرؤية طويلة المدى بدلا من العلل المتأخّرة: الالتفات سريعا ، في أقلّ من 50 عاما ، توجهت اليابان من صناعة المنتجات الرخيصة وذات القيمة المنخفضة ، نحو الافضل جودة و الادق عملا بالصناعة في العالم. عندما بدأ د. دمينغ التحدث أولا في أمريكا ، كانت أمريكا لا تزال تمر فى موجة نصرة الحرب . لم يستمع إليه احد. اما اليابانيين فقد رحّبوا به ، وحتى اليوم ، آثار طرقه فى مراقبة الجودة ما زلت تتبع فى اماكن الاعمال الصناعيّة.
