Need for Employees' Welfare in the Principles
It is obvious that in this 14 principles something is missing: the inclusion of "staff welfare". Because after all proper measures have been put in place, and the end-result is achieved, what becomes of this team that achieved this goal, apart from being remunerated?

Need of Employee Welfare Some more comments are:
1. An organization performs well, if all employees perform well. The job of management is to elicit these peaks of performance from employees, and money can be one tool for this. But, money is far from the only motivator in the world of businesses (take for instance organizations like ngo, associations or intergovernmental organizations)
2. The principles of Fayol need to be put in the context of the beginning of the 20st century in the USA. When Ford was trying to build the first cars for humanity. Ford has to cut cost. A T-model car was $600 (without the scientific management principle), using Fayol / Taylor principles, car prices were divided by 3 and this was great! By organizing the workplace for production. This did not affect the welfare of employees - and it is why these principles are largely acknowledged in the world. Better practices at the workplace do not affect welfare of employee and improves the team work.

Re: Need for Employees Welfare in the Principles @Terry Armstrong : I think employee welfare is incorporated in at least three more of the fourteen principles.
Welfare is managed through morale boosting (#14) of all employees and this comes in different ways. Job security (#12) is another one clearly mentioned and finally remuneration (#7).
All these functions are means to an end: to sustain and improve the work environment, thereby improving employee welfare.

People Welfare, Staff Welfare People welfare is a consequence of the management principles and not the reverse.
The logic behind them is the scientific principles help to lower prices, thus every segment of consumers -rich or poor can afford to buy the products.
As the business is profitable, it expands and employ more staff, can pay them better...
Corporate law tends to balance the ownership interest with staff welfare as well as consumer interests.
Management is all about staff welfare. Consider Mayo's worker productivity experiments.

Staff Welfare Human resource development and retention of employees can only be done with staff welfare measures in place. I consider this the most important factor in management,.
