Em 1989, Gary Hamel e C.K. Prahalad criaram um upheaval com seu artigo “Strategic Intent intitulado”. Foi publicado em Harvard Business Review. Hamel e Prahalad argumentam que a fim conseguir o sucesso, uma companhia deve reconcile sua finalidade (extremidade) com seus meios com Strategic Intent.

Que é Strategic Intent?

Em seu livro, Hamel e Prahalad definem Strategic Intent como: um sonho ambicioso e compelindo que energize; qual fornece a energia emocional e intelectual para a viagem ao futuro. Se a arquitetura estratégica (um blueprint high-level para a distribuição de funcionalidades novas, a aquisição de competência novas ou da migração de competência existentes, e reconfigurar da relação com clientes) for o cérebro, a intenção estratégica é o coração. Deve expressar um sentimento do estiramento (desafio) que os recursos e as potencialidades atuais não são suficientes para a tarefa.
 

Atributos de Strategic Intent

Hamel e Prahalad forneceram os seguintes três atributos da intenção estratégica: sentido, descoberta, e destiny.

1. Sentido do sentido. Um ponto particular da vista sobre o mercado a longo prazo ou a posição do competidor que uma empresa espera construir o excesso a década de vinda ou assim. Deve ser uma vista do futuro e deve expressar um sentido do sentido que unifies e personaliza.
2. Sentido da descoberta. Uma intenção estratégica diferencia-se; implica um ponto do competidor original da vista sobre o futuro. Prende para fora aos empregados a promessa de explorar o território do competidor novo.
3. Sentido do Destiny. A intenção estratégica tem um lado emocional; é um objetivo que os empregados percebam como inerente o artigo de valor.

Processo típico de Strategic Intent de três etapas

1. Ajuste Strategic Intent, tendo todas as três características indicadas acima.
2. Ajuste os desafios. Encontre desafios apropriados e comunique-os ao workforce inteiro. Estes desafios são os meios conseguir Strategic Intent. Por exemplo: Suponha que Strategic Intent de Canon é: “Bata Xerox”. Um desafio estratégico podia ser: Desenvolva uma copiadora home em um preço de objetivo de $1000.
3. Empowerment de Strategic Intent. A chave em todo o processo de Strategic Intent é: para realizar que conseguir (que começa em) Strategic Intent é uma matéria que envolva todos. A tarefa da gerência superior aqui é “capturar a sabedoria do monte das formigas”: mude o estilo descendente tradicional de uma comunicação a um córrego ascendente de uma comunicação das idéias novas que vêm da organização inteira.

O fundo deste abordagem para a estratégia corporativo, e pensar estratégico no general, eram o ascent dramático da pós guerra de companhias japonesas. A economia japonesa dominou cada vez mais os mercados de mundo, tendo as ambições iniciais que no oeste seriam consideradas altamente unrealistic. Unrealistic a respeito de seus recursos e potencialidades. Um obsession para ganhar foi criado e sustentado em todos os níveis da organização. Assim a base foi criada para uns 10 - ao quest 20-year para a liderança global do mercado.
