Is BPR Applicablle to SMEs? YES Very much so. In many occasions they need a breakthrough improvement to escape from critical problems.

Is BPR Applicable to SMEs? Yes According to Chung & Powell (2005), it is beneficial for SME to apply BPR. Although BPR is mostly done by SMEs who have a strong position.
I would recommend reading: 'Process Re-engineering Success in Small and Medium Sized Enterprises' by Chang & Powell.

WHEN BPR is Applicable to SMEs: When you are facing following problems in your organization then you can consider a BPR exercise (both in small and large organizations)
- Cross-functional, cross-departmental, cross-hierarchical problems
- Too many non-value-adding steps (e.g. check, monitor, control, authorize, reconcile, transfer),
- Complex procedures with many exceptions & special cases
- To fight increasing competition, to get products/services to market faster
- Rework, iteration & duplication of work
- Miscommunications occur frequently and important information was not passed to the relevant parties to follow up.
- It takes a long time to know the progress of the work when the customers ask.
- Don't know for sure the cost and profitability of works done.
- Not sure of who is responsible for what task.

Can BPR Be Used in Small and Middle Size Companies as Well? I used BPR in both large corporation and a manufacturing SME, and it worked very well.
Both business process changes / improvements and mind set changes were achieved:
BPR helped to establish a sense of urgency and it also improved the responsiveness to customers, both internal and external.

Is BPR Applicable to SMEs? YES Think about the increased value that you can add to your business by radically changing the way it operates.
Don't just take a leap of faith and think BPR is a cure of all ills.
Understand the problem you need to solve and the outcomes you desire, and then consider objectively whether BPR will support this journey.

BPR is a Possible for ALL Organizations BPR is all about process improvement. Thus as long as there are identifiable processes, BPR can be applied.
