Shan Zhai and the Trickster
Chinese Shan Zhai (mountain fort, bandit) thrives today in copycat cell phones and the like.companies like BYD are bringing Chinese cars to the USA. The copycat lack of intellectual property regard can be seen as akin to piracy, or just another form of our natural trickster activity. Technology, techne, arrives with the trickster, and in that culture it copies, adjusts, improves, in cycles.

About Shanzhai ( 山寨 ) Shanzhai (Chinese: 山寨 pinyin: shānzhài) refers to counterfeit consumer goods, including imitation and trademark infringing brands and/or particularly electronics, in China. Literally "mountain village" or "mountain stronghold", the term refers to the mountain stockades of regional warlords or bandits, far away from official control. "Shanzhai" can also be stretched to refer to people who are lookalikes, low-quality or improved goods, as well as things done in parody.
Shanzhaiism (山寨主義) is a philosophical term denoting a Chinese style of innovation with a peasant mind-set.
