Balanced Scorecard for Start Up Companies?
Is the BSC tool valuable to use when setting up a start up company? Or is this system to rigid compared to the flexibility that is required for a start up?

Balanced Scorecard for Start Up Company Of course the BSC will be useful. After all, to set up a successful start up company will require the four elements of the BSC to be present.
Typically start ups focus on the skills and experiences of the entrepreneur in composing the company business concept.
The Balanced Scorecard will support an overall view to make sure each element of the business receives attention and is 'covered'.

Balanced Scorecard for Start Ups We work with start up companies helping them to establish the BSC framework to implement their business strategy.
In the initial few years, start-up firms focus on revenues, look to bring products / services to the market and have to identify a differentiating value proposition to acquire customers.
Actual delivery of that value does require identifying critical processes and skills/capabilities as well that can be "strategy mapped" and translated to measures, targets and programs to drive the business goals.

BSC Introduction in Start Up In my experience, rolling out a BSC in a start up is an overkill. The startup priorities are very different and focused on revenue generation, getting key processes established, getting new personnel on board, rolling out IT systems which as usual are delayed, over budget etc.
All this introduces too much variability in operations and consequently performance. The BSC has a focus on quantitative output measures and presupposes stable processes etc.
IMHO there is conflict and it would be better to delay the introduction of BSC till there is some degree of stability.
