Individual Differences in Applying Time Management Techniques

Time management is focusing on solving problems caused by being overwhelmed by workloads; planning too optimistically; being unable to deal with distractions; deadline pressure; and procrastination. Time management can overcome this problem by deploying preparation and planning.

But there are differences in HOW we do time management. This occurs due to individual differences:

• Some PEOPLE are simply more planned and concerned about time than others.
• The PERCEIVED URGENCY OF TIME (the extent to which someone is in a hurry and focus on time).
• POLY-CHRONICITY (preference for handling multiple activities simultaneously).
• Desire for EFFICIENT USE OF TIME
• DELAY OF ACTIVITIES, even though the person realizes that they are important and urgent, this is called PROCRASTINATION. Research on procrastination has devoted attention to the trait perspective, where procrastination is seen as a general tendency to repeatedly engage in this kind of behavior. The procrastination factor usually tends to be indifferent to discipline, order, and achievement motivation.

Thus, the effectiveness of time management techniques, as these are only a tool, is highly determined by the individual differences as I described above.
