PM is een strategische managementaanpak voor het volgen van hoe goed een bedrijf presteert. Het beschrijft de methodologieën, meetsystemen, processen, systemen en software die voor het volgen en het managen van de bedrijfsprestatie van een onderneming worden gebruikt. Business Performance Management, Strategic Performance Management, Enterprise Performance Management en Corporate Performance Management zijn allemaal variaties van de terminologie. Verwar dit onderwerp niet met performance management van werknemers.
