SECI is the Leading Knowledge Management Model Yes, the SECI model is probably the most used and main concept in understanding knowledge management (KM). Without a doubt, KM practitioners need to refer to this model in formulating the plans for knowledge management activities.
Practically, the topic of knowledge management gained momentum since the late 90s when Nonaka and Takeuchi published their book in 1995. In organizational context, knowledge is information in action (O'Dell and Grayson, 1998). Fundamentally, the real KM is practical and action oriented that can be adopted to realize organization's mission.
Personally, I've adopted the working definition of KM as "a conscious strategy of getting the right knowledge to the right people at the right time and helping people share and put information into action in ways that strive to improve organizational performance" (O'Dell and Grayson, 1998).
According to Nonaka and Takeuchi (1995), knowledge is "a dynamic human process of justifying personal belief toward the truth". In other words, knowledge is about beliefs, commitments and actions.
