SMARTER Management by Objectives
🔥 In the 90s when Drucker refined his 1954 work on MBO, he puts in the caveat "if you know the objectives… 90% of the time you don't".
This meant to me that we work 90% of the time without a bearing and with limited or no direction. The 10% that we do know is heavily taxed by competition and the zeal to excel and to remain relevant. We have limited time to reward and enjoy ourselves.
That's why I subscribe to the school of thought that wants a modification of SMART to:
SMARTER. The letters ER at the end are standing for "Enjoyable" and "Rewarding".
