Application of Two Factor Theory in Non-Governmental Organizations

Is the model applicable in non-government organizations where officers are not receiving remunerations in whatever kind where the pressing concern is how to drive them to perform to their best level?

Motivation from Extrinsic Factors

Interesting question, Ludy. But I guess, the answer would be a yes... If one were to replace remuneration with emotional fulfillment (the very reason people 'work' in NGOs) and exchange 'emotional currency' (positive and strengthening statements and acknowledgements about work done well) then given other criteria in the Hygiene Factors remaining as is, I think Hertzberg's Theory should hold good.

Two Factor Theory in Non-Governmental Organizations Without Salary

Another conclusion we can draw from Two Factor Theory in Non-Governmental Organizations is that when we give no payment/remuneration to officers in any form in NGO's that is likely to become a strong dissatisfier in the long run for them.
Even if there probably exist strong motivational factors.
In other words, we are dealing with a scenario of Low Hygiene + High Motivation: Employees are motivated but have a lot of complaints. A situation where the job is exciting and challenging. However the salaries are not OK.
