What is a Chief Financial Officer? The Chief Financial Officer is the person responsible for the (global) financial management of a corporation. The traditional duties of the CFO include the end responsibility for annual reports, signing important financial transactions, devising long-term financial plans and budgets, capital raising activities, analyzing and reviewing financial data, internal reporting on corporate performance, and monitoring expenditures and costs. More recently the focus of the CFO is shifting to helping the CEO and business leaders find new opportunities to create value and assessing their financial and strategic merits and risks. Additional duties now include dealing with mergers and acquisitions, overseeing treasury, and risk management. The Chief Financial Officer normally reports to the CEO. Furthermore the CFO is required to present this kind of information to the board of directors and to shareholders and regulatory bodies at regular intervals.
