Opportunity or Threat?

There can be considerable debate about what is a threat and what is an opportunity.
When a company spots a new trend early and acts upon it well, then it has an opportunity. If another company does not see the same trend coming, or fails to act upon it well, then it is facing a threat. Furthermore, people with an entrepreneurial or can-do mentality view almost anything as an opportunity, while pessimistic, bureaucratic people view almost anything as a threat.

Effect of Pessimistic and Bureaucratic People in SWOT Analysis

I think pessimistic and bureaucratic people are equally dangerous to well connected civilized society as pessimistic ones are.
Especially in a country like India where bureaucracy prevails like hell and get continuous support from top political leaders. This situation is very dangerous to growing society. This must vanish.
SWOT can help, but you involve the right people in it.
The world of today demands a new social as well as organisational system to make use of opportunities. Further research in this direction is paramount for sustainable growth of a society.

Opportunity or Threat?

I quite agree with Lorenzo (UK). It depends on the angle from which you are looking at the issue. A new entrant in a market is optimistic of making good business - trying to exploit an unfolding opportunity.
On the other hand, the same trend/opportunity and the new market entrant will both be considered a threat by the existing players.
