Aims, Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives: Differences and Similarities There are at least 3 levels that can be distinguished to express the hierarchy of strategic aims of any organization: Vision/Mission, Goals and Objectives. See the article on CSFs and KPIs for more detailed information.
Unfortunately, in daily parlance - and even among management professionals - these terms are mixed up frequently. And also in different parts of the world and in different sectors (manufacturing, healthcare, ...) the terms can mean different things.
So always consider the context in which terms like this are being used. And remember there exists a strategic hierarchy and interdependence among strategic goals. The exact terminology being used to accommodate a particular hierarchy can differ.
