Using the Case Method for Individual Students
I am a part-time professor in a small private university in Mexico City, teaching Business Courses to Junior and Senior students in English.
I have used cases in several textbooks (International Business, Hill mainly), for Midterm and Final Exams in teaching in a remote fashion. Since groups are very small (one or two students), I have assigned cases individually. The student has to understand the case, research it and answers the questions in the textbook. Also the student has to reflect on the application of it to the Mexican scene, and prepare a summary in PowerPoint, which they present using Skype.
Besides missing the team discussion (which I use for larger in classroom settings), I am not entirely satisfied with the learning of my students.
Any advise will be welcome.

Issues with Using the Case Method for Individual Students BENEFITS OF CASE METHOD
Because of the combined effects of active participation, storytelling and teamwork, the case method is fun for students, makes them learn more and deeper, and allows them to practice several personal and group skills while they're learning.
DRAWBACKS OF CASE METHOD
Among the main disadvantages of the case method is the fact that it is very demanding and time-consuming.
INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS AND CASE METHOD
If you use the Case Method for remote teaching to individual students, you are likely to miss the most important benefits, while you expose the student fully to its disadvantages. Considering the above, it is no surprise the progress of your students is not optimal.
