Kulturelle Intelligenz (Cq) ist die Fähigkeit, mit nationalen, unternehmerischen und beruflichen Kulturen umzugehen, wie durch Christopher Earley und Elaine Mosakowski in der HBR von Oktober 2004 beschrieben. Cq ist die Fähigkeit, nicht vertraute Kontexte zu verstehen, und sich dann anzupassen. Sie beschreiben drei Quellen der Kulturelle Intelligenz.

Drei Quellen der Kulturelle Intelligenz

1. Der Kopf / Kognitiv. Auswendig lernen von Glauben, Gewohnheiten und Tabus fremder Kulturen wird nicht gut funktionieren.

2. Der Körper / Physisch. Sie werden Ihre ausländischen Gastgeber, Gäste oder Kollegen nicht besänftigen, indem Sie zeigen, dass Sie ihre Kultur verstehen; Ihre Aktivitäten und Ihr Verhalten müssen zeigen, dass Sie bereits zu einem gewissen Maße ihre Welt betreten haben.

3. Das Herz/ Emotional /Motivational. Sich einer neuen Kultur anzupassen, bezieht die Überwindung von Hindernissen und Rückschlägen ein. Leute können dies nur tun, wenn sie an ihre eigene Wirkungskraft glauben.

Während sie viele der Eigenschaften der emotionalen Intelligenz teilt, geht Kulturelle Intelligenz einen Schritt weiter, indem sie eine Person ausrüstet, um das Verhalten zu unterscheiden, das durch die Kultur produziert wird, im Gegensatz zu Verhalten das besonders ist für eine bestimmte Einzelperson oder das in allen Menschen gefunden wird.

Bedeutung der Kulturelle Intelligenz

Warum Kulturelle Intelligenz? In einem in zunehmendem Maße facettenreichen betrieblichen Umfeld müssen Manager in der Lage sein sich durch das Dickicht von Gewohnheiten, Gesten und Annahmen zu bewegen, das die Unterschiede ihrer Mitarbeiter definiert. Fremde Kulturen sind überall. Zweifellos in anderen Ländern, aber auch in Unternehmen, Berufen und Regionen. Interagieren mit Einzelpersonen innerhalb dieser erfordert Einfühlungsvermögen und Anpassungsfähigkeit. Und die Leute, die jene Eigenschaften im Überfluss besitzen, sind nicht notwendigerweise diejenigen, die den größten sozialen Erfolg innerhalb einer vertrauten Umgebung genießen.
 

Die Leute, die sozial unter ihren Freunden am erfolgreichsten sind, haben häufig die größte Schwierigkeit, kulturelle Fremde zu vestehen und von ihnen akzeptiert zu werden. Diejenigen, die komplett die Gewohnheiten und die Normen ihrer gebürtigen Kultur verkörpern, können die Fremdesten sein, wenn sie in eine andere Kultur eintreten. Manchmal können Leute, die sich von ihrer eigenen Kultur ein wenig gelöst haben, einfacher die Gewohnheiten und sogar die Körpersprache eines nicht vertrauten Gastgebers annehmen. Sie sind natürliche Beobachter und bilden leicht eine bewußte Bemühung, um sich anzupassen.
 

Erhöhen Ihrer Kulturelle Intelligenz

Earley und Mosakowski stellen fest, dass jeder, der recht aufmerksam, motiviert und ausgeglichen ist, einen annehmbaren Cq erreichen kann. Sie empfehlen einen Ansatz mit 6 Schritten zur Kultivierung Ihrer kulturellen Intelligenz:

1. Überprüfen Sie Ihre Cq Stärken und Schwächen. Auf diese Art gründen Sie einen Ausgangspunkt.

2. Wählen Sie Training, dass sich auf Ihre Schwächen fokussiert.

3. Wenden Sie dieses Training an.

4. Organisieren Sie Unterstützung in Ihrer eigenen Organisation.

5. Betreten Sie die kulturelle Umgebung. Beginnen Sie mit einem Fokus auf Ihren Stärken.

6. Bewerten Sie neu (360°). Definieren Sie vielleicht weiteres Training.
