Earnings per Share (EPS)は企業の価値を定めるために使用される従来の方法である。 EPSのような同じような単語は次のとおりである: Accounting EarningsおよびReported Earnings、但し例外としてはEPSは発行済み株式の平均数で分けられる。

EPSの計算

Earnings per Shareは優先株の配当を純所得からの引き、すべての顕著な共通株およびすべての普通株等量の(の重量平均)組合せによる結果を分けることによって計算することができる(数字、数値右側のを見なさい)。

Fully Diluted EPS

Fully Diluted EPSはすべての普通株等量(転換社債、優先株、令状および権利)が普通株と共に含まれていたことを意味する。

実際の企業の価値の悪い表示器

Reported Earningsは企業の価値の非常に悪い表示器である。

EPSが確実に会社の経済的価値をなぜ測定しないか6つの主因は次のとおりである:

1. 代わりとなる継続記録計算法は用いられるかもしれない。 FASBによる要求された変更かIASおよび自発的な変更は両方EPSを変えることができるが経済的価値に影響を与えない。
2. 危険は除かれる。 ビジネス両方リスクおよび財政の危険は年報でを説明されない。
3. 投資の条件は除かれる。 Reported Earningsの例えば流動比率の変更は考慮されない。
